The Commonwealth Youth Program (CYP) of the University of
Zambia was our home for the first few days of the trip.
But, where in the world were we?
Take a look at the map below. On the left, you get the idea that Zambia is
a land-locked country in the south of Africa. On the right, you can see more
details about exactly where we were. Over the course of our trip, we traveled
from the Lusaka to Livingstone at the southern border of Zambia.
Immediately upon arriving at the CYP, Mitzi and Elizabeth were whisked away to Matero Boys' Secondary School to tell the VERY well informed boys about the eclipse. To put this into perspective, recall that we had just finished an eight-hour plane flight to London, followed by a twelve-hour layover, followed by another ten-hour plane flight to Lusaka! The boys, who were very patient with us two severely, sleep deprived Americans, asked excellent questions. (Click on the images for larger versions.)

The brick wall that surrounded our first home
was topped with broken glass. Many other walls were topped
with barbed wire. This design is intended to keep out
thieves. Although Zambians gained their independence in 1964,
there are still many poor people.
